“Making friends is harder when you’re homeless.”

These words, uttered by a member of one of the displaced families Extra-Ordinary Birthdays (EOB) serves, plainly exemplify one of the everyday pains experienced by homeless children.

They are – sometimes abruptly – removed from relatives, friends, schools. When a child loses or lacks this bonding sense of belonging and significance, their self-esteem is threatened. Cultivating and maintaining friendships – establishing sturdy roots – becomes increasingly difficult.

The personalized birthday parties Extra-Ordinary Birthdays provides in local shelters afford homeless children cherished moments among friends and family.

They feel no shame or need for explanation: all the partygoers are in the same place and situation – celebrating the same wonderful, little human.

On this #GivingTuesday, we invite our supporters to help children continue to share birthdays with their pals and spread their own powerful form of friendship.

#GivingTuesday is a global day of giving for nonprofits. We at Extra-Ordinary Birthdays intend to highlight our efforts to create moments of normalcy among EOB kids – so they may laugh, play, and lift their self-esteem alongside friends and family.

Please join our Give $10, Get 10 Friends campaign in honor of #GivingTuesday. If you can encourage 10 pals – yourself included – to donate $10, your squad’s $100 donation will inch us closer to our year-end goal of $15,000.

Your gift provides far more than party supplies, snacks, and cake. If you can remember the giggles, wonder, and gameplay experienced at your childhood celebrations – or the buddies who surrounded you as you drew breath to blow out candles – you understand the power of that pure-and-simple birthday party magic.

EOB continues to be the only organization of its kind that orchestrates personalized birthday parties for underprivileged children – with the ever-important goal of making them feel recognized and valued.

We’re committed to breaking down the barriers and stigmas associated with homelessness – and helping children and their families create lasting relationships and positive memories. We hope that we can count on you as our partner in this mission.
